If you got a copy of the Free Comic Book Day from Top Cow which was a prequel to Artifacts, you would know that the Top Cow universe has 13 different Artifacts that empower people. Some of these Artifacts have ended up with people like Jackie Estacado, Dani Baptiste and Sara Pezzini (Witchblade).
And as the First Born concluded, we found out for ourselves that the Darkness (possessing Jackie Estacado) impregnated Sara Pezzini (Witchblade) and bore the little baby Hope (no relation to the X-Men's Hope Summers)
The art was a bit sketchy reminiscent of Leinil Yu's style of artwork and the writing was good. The obvious cliffhanger ending and the game plan of the main baddie has yet to take full effect.
Like many major comic book "event" minis, there are people who will never make it. And it was a shock to see that a supporting character dies and loses Hope.
The book is great but a lot of necessary and required reading is needed in order to get the full account and not scratch your head.
