Sebastian Shaw Beheads Emma Frost in Uncanny X-Men 534

Yup it seems like the former Black King Sebastian Shaw has managed to off Emma Frost in their continued tangle in China. Fantomex and Kitty Pryde are nowhere in sight too.

Is this true or was this just a figment of Shaw's imagination? You might want to check the new preview for Uncanny X-Men # 534 in Newsarama.

And this is still by Matt Fraction, Kieron Gillen and Greg Land.

Marvel Minimates to Feature Curse of Mutants X-Men Minimates

During the recently concluded Toy Fair 2011, we've gotten the chance to see some of the best looking toys that'll be hitting the toy stores soon. And one of them happens to be the staple from Art Asylum in the form of the Marvel Minimates toy line.

Featured in this year's expo were prototypes for minimates from the "Curse of the Mutants" storyline which featured the X-Men battling Marvel's Vampire Nation led by Dracula's son Xarus and subsequently Dracula himself.

The story ran in the third volume of the adjectiveless X-Men which was written by Victor Gischler with great art provided by Paco Medina.

Matt Fraction out of Uncanny, Gillen Takes Over

Kieron Gillen must be jumping out of his boots with all the high-profile projects that's being handed to him by the House of Ideas. First there was Journey into Mystery and now he's been officially handed the keys to the kingdom for mutantkind.

Yes, Matt Fraction has left the writing duties to Gillen's able hands for a shot at the big leagues with his project Fear Itself launching pretty soon.

Guess Who's Back on X-Men Legacy

The Children of the Vault may have gotten their heads kicked in during the "Supernovas" arc by Mike Carey and Chris Bachalo but they vowed revenge against Marvel's merry mutants, The X-Men, sometime soon, especially after the death of their leader, Sangre back in X-Men # 188 - 199...

Mike Carey's works is once again the book's main selling point. Effectively writing Rogue in scenes together with former paramour Magneto in a mission in India makes you long for those old books illustrated by Jim Lee.

The team dynamics and who see brings along is also a great part of the reading experience for X-Men Legacy.

Tagging along with Rogue and Magneto are Loa and Anole as well as the peaceful Paras who has been summoned back home. (Apparently to be married off to a complete stranger.) They meet a girl who may or may not be another mutant and take down a bunch of Sentinels trying to catch her.

Turns out she's apparently part of the Children of the Vault, a group of post human race developed somewhere in Ecuador as a part of a twisted experiment. Luz as she wants to be called has the power to control light (sort of like Dazzler with a bit more artistic flare.)

In one of the scenes, Magneto asks Rogue to check on the location of the Children of the Vault's new city, to the disgust of the latter. She then lands a solid punch on Magnus....

Poor poor Max. After joining the X-Men he turns from great and legendary mutant visionary to being relegated to Rogue's whipping boy....

Things also heat up for Paras and Luz as they share a short yet passionate kiss before getting "almost caught" by the returning Magneto and Rogue.

And then their opponents finally reveal themselves...

Post-Second Coming Fastball Special

Let's admit it. The third X-Men book may not have sold like the second one (you know the one drawn by Jim Lee) but it was a good read.

Victor Gischler and Paco Medina may have a tough time competing against a certain Chris Claremont and Jim Lee and get a Guiness book of World Records but it was funny as hell. Especially since they were dealing with Vampires.

And it's even better to see the classic fastball special combo...

I'm starting to like the artwork a lot and its also a great time to see Wolverine back in his regular yellow duds versus his black and gray X-Force suit which was really terrible...

Oh wait, Uncanny X-Force is back...

*Face palm*

Marko Djurdjevic's X-Men Poster

Marko Djurdjevic is one talented poster artist. Not only did he craft the Avengers poster with all the various teams as well as villains, he's also done the same thing this time for the X-Men.

why is Hank picking his nose though???

Second Coming Teaser: One Will Die

Marvel just released a second teaser image for the next X-over, Second Coming. Apparently, an X-Man would die while trying to get Hope Summers.

So who's it going to be?

My money's on either Nightcrawler or Anole or we can probably see Hellion getting stabbed once more like a kebab courtesy of Lady Deathstrike.

But you know what, this whole death for the X-Men is something really stupid. It's getting old and uninteresting.

Kitty Pryde Comes Back to the X-Men

Its just sad that its too soon but I like Kitty Pryde, I like her character and I like her powers. The Collossus - Kitty tandem is a great thing to read in Uncanny.

Thank you Matt Fraction for bringing her back. Thank you Joss Whedon for her brave sacrifice.

Reviews: Mini reviews for December 3

Uncanny X-Men #518 - Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson

4/5

Scott finally deals with that Void sliver inside Emma Frost and it's pretty creepy. He ventures inside the White Queen's brain to save her only to fall into the Void's clutches. So right now, both Cyclops and Sentry gets pestered by the Void. Meanwhile, Beast is most displeased with the happenings inside Utopia. He tries to talk to Iceman regarding the issue and is not happy with the outcome. Magneto is given a seat in the X-Science Team in order to deal with the island sinking back to Davy Jones' locker. Magneto and Doctor Nemesis are in for a little bickering before they get the "break it up"

Solid issue from Matt Fraction. Art from Dodson delivers again as usual. The guys look heroic and the girls look really hot.

Dark Avengers Annual # 1

5/5

When Karla Soffen informed Noh-Varr that the Avengers he hooked up with were in entirety the Thunderbolts reformatted and refitted to serve as Osborn's twisted version of the Avengers, the young stranger upped and left the Avengers.

This particular volume shows us what happened to his world afterwards. Bendis' dialogue was filled with desperation and anxiety, two things that made Marvel Boy a sure winner in this solo story.

By the issues end, we are treated to a glimpse of an upgraded Marvel Boy (Who will be calling himself Captain Marvel soon enough) and the two Captain America's plans for the boy.

Gave it a perfect score also because I loved Bachalo's art for this annual. Really great stuff.

The Monthlies: X-Men Legacy Annual

Rogues Looks Really nice. And the story even looks better thanks to the art of Daniel Acuna. I really like how Mike Carey builds off his stories from whatever happens in Uncanny. He's a perfect compliment to Matt Fraction's work.

Emplate is back. What the heck does he want? And where the heck has been???

I just miss the fact that Rogue won't be able to fight like what she used to. She was the Blue Strike team's muscle before. I wish they had her strength and flight stay....

But we can't all get our request right?

Whatever Happened to: Fantomex

Yup, Fantomex...

I missed this guy. He was one of those anti-hero guys that keep popping out in the various X-Books from time to time.

And now, thanks to Dark Reign's THE LIST, We get to see him once again. (Hoping he's still a good guy though. I hate it if he turns into a bad guy.)

Norman Osborn may be able to get a few things done on his "List," but odds are against him when Wolverine gets involved.

In
Dark Reign: The List – Wolverine, the one-issue story by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic, Norman Osborn is going after the Weapon Plus program, but Wolverine and some other special guest stars aren't going to make it easy for him.

Following Norman Osborn as he goes through a "list" of things he wants to fix in the Marvel Universe, "The List" is a series of eight one-issue specials that tie together. Serving as what
Brian Michael Bendis calls a "huge chapter" in Dark Reign, the List will feature stories by some of Marvel's own list of "Write Stuff" creators.

Also the writer of the ongoing
Wolverine: Weapon X series, Jason Aaron is taking the opportunity of writing Dark Reign: The List - Wolverine to play with some of the toys left behind from Grant Morrison's time at Marvel. As a Morrison fan himself (as Newsarama readers might remember from our discussion with him last year, Aaron almost named his son "Grant" after the writer), Aaron been wanting to work with characters like Fantomex and Marvel Boy. And now he gets that chance.

Plus, Jason Aaron fans are going to get a surprise in the List issue -- a reprint of Aaron's very first Wolverine story, the 10-page story he wrote when he won the Marvel Talent Search back in the summer of 2001.

Newsarama talked to Aaron about the what's going to go down in
Dark Reign: The List – Wolverine.

Newsarama
: So on Norman's to-do list, what's he going to do that involves Wolverine?

Jason Aaron
: The idea is that Norman wants to get his hands on the resources of the Weapon Plus program -- the program that created everybody from Captain America up through Wolverine up through the Super-Sentinels like Fantomex from the New X-Men run. So he wants control of the labs and the world that was introduced in Morrison's stuff. It's people with these sort of rejected experiments and artificially evolved cyborgs. And I think there's this whole culture and religion within this place. This is where Weapon Plus was creating their Super Sentinels.

Norman finds out that there are these highly advanced super soldiers out there, and he wants to make his own. He wants control of that.

And of course, Wolverine is going to be there to stop him. But also involved will be Fantomex, of course, who I love, from Morrison's
New X-Men stuff. And also, just to make it even crazier, Marvel Boy. So it's me getting to play with some Morrison toys, which is a huge thrill because I'm a life-long Morrison fan since I first picked up Doom Patrol and Animal Man. Marvel Boy and his X-Men stuff are some of my favorite Marvel stories from the last few years. Marvel Boy in particular. I go back to that book every once in awhile because I think it's just a perfect comic, in a lot of ways. So you take all that and mix it up, and I think it's going to be an interesting comic.

NRAMA
: Will this comic require a lot of knowledge of what's going on with Wolverine or in Dark Reign?

JA
: It's not necessary to have read any of Wolverine. As for Dark Reign, on one hand, I think yes, this is part of everything that's going on in Dark Reign and will tie to the other List stories. But at the same time, I think, just like the Secret Invasion story I did in Black Panther, it was part of a big event, but you could pick that up and it stood on its own. I think this is the same way.

Going into this one-shot, all you really need to know is that Norman Osborn is a bad guy in a position of power and he wants to get his hands on this stuff. And all these people are in the mix are trying to stop him. That's really all you need to know to enjoy this story. It'll pretty much stand on its own.

NRAMA
: Will Norman have the Dark Avengers with him? In other words, is Wolverine going to go up against his son?

JA
: No, we won't see Daken. I think he's already popping up in some of the other List stories. But our cast will just include Wolverine, Marvel Boy and Fantomex. And we'll also be introducing the all-new Weapon 16, which is the strangest of the Weapon Plus weapons we've seen so far. It's very much keeping in the Grant Morrison spirit.

But I should say that I'm not Grant Morrison, would never pretend to be Grant Morrison, and could never write like Grant Morrison, so this isn't me trying to be Grant Morrison. This is me doing
me, but getting to play with some Grant Morrison toys.

NRAMA
: I was wondering, because you even cut your hair like him.

JA
: [laughs] Yeah, but I could never get down the Scottish accent.

NRAMA
: This is an oversized issue. Is your story the whole thing?

JA
: My story is just 22 pages. But I believe Marvel is going to reprint my very first Wolverine story in this -- that short one I wrote when I won the Marvel contest back in 2001. So you get my first Wolverine story and my newest one all in the same issue.

Plus you get Esad Ribic's artwork. I love Esad's stuff. I was thrilled when I was first hooked up with him. I think one of the main things they wanted to do with The List was bring in some of the A-list artists and team them up with some of the guys they've never worked with before.

NRAMA
: The way Brian Bendis explained it to us, it sounds like the premise of The List was presented to you and then you had to come up with a story to fit within it. What kind of challenges does it present to work within that framework as opposed to just coming up with your own premise? And do you like that type of challenge?

JA
: It's a good change of pace. I wouldn't want to do that all the time. But at the same time, I wouldn't necessarily be left to my own devices all the time. It's good to mix things up. It's good to jump into that more high-profile part of the Marvel U and play with the big toys.

But yeah, they came to me and said, "Norman and Wolverine." And within that I could kind of do whatever I wanted to do. I thought the Weapon Plus angle was a perfect choice and made sense. And it gave me the opportunity to bring in all this other craziness that I had been itching to play with. Matt Fraction and I have both been talking about Fantomex and have both been talking about ways to bring him back into the X-Men Universe. Thankfully, I was able to beat Matt Fraction to the punch. But hopefully, this one shot will make Fantomex a player again and bring him back into the forefront, making him a character people will want to use. I would still like to use him again. So you may see him popping up in
Weapon X sometime soon.

Life after Messiah War

Just came back from reading CBR's interview with the team of Yost and Kyle (writers for X-Force) and I must admit I am positively stumped.

With a new mini/ one shot entitled : X-Force: Sex and Violence starring Domino and Wolverine....

A lot of questions have also been raised regarding the status of New-X-Men Hellion and Surge (who was last seen in this series tied and to be used as dynamites.) Apprently now that those two know the existence of Cyclop's wetworks team, the hard choice of either joining or getting mind wiped is on the table.

And finally, WARPATH WILL FLY!!!!!!!!!
