Steve Rogers Becomes Captain America Once More in Captain America # 1

Marvel Entertainment is proud to announce Captain America #1, the first issue of an all new ongoing series premiering in July from two of the comic industry’s most acclaimed creators—writer Ed Brubaker (Death of Captain America) and artist Steve McNiven (Civil War)!

Steve Rogers is back as Captain America but when a mysterious figure from his past returns with the Sentinel of Liberty in his crosshairs, deadly secrets will surface—and send shockwaves through the lives of everyone Steve holds dear. An all-new, high octane Captain America series begins here, just in time for the First Avenger’s highly anticipated feature film from Marvel Studios.

“I gave myself a few challenges for this new #1 - I wanted to do the perfect Cap comic for anyone who walks out of the Cap movie and wants to know what's next, but it also had to build on everything I've done on the book beforehand, too, and feel like the natural next step,” explained Brubaker. “Thank God Brevoort wrangled me Steve McNiven to pull all this off. Steve is at the top of his game, and no one draws action like him. I can't wait for these issues to start coming out.”

McNiven revealed, “Captain America has been a character I've wanted to work on in more depth since Civil War, a real icon of the Marvel Universe. Not only do I get to run with Cap, but Ed Brubaker, a guy who has redefined the character at Marvel, is writing the books and he's come up with an absolutely brilliant storyline that I can't wait for folks to read.”

Perfect for readers new and old alike, the extra-sized Captain America #1 kicks off the next big chapter in the life of Steve Rogers, courtesy of superstars Ed Brubaker and Steve McNiven!

The Final Captain America Costume

While we've already seen lots of Captain America costumes all throughout the months, a new costume has surfaced.

The costume, which is rumored to be the final and modern costume for Chris Evan's Steve Roger will have very minimal changes.

The update costume looks a lot like the Ultimates version of Captain America but now include a brown holster while the suspender is divided in color, with red getting the bottom part.

No real problem with the costume as it really looks great on Evans. Just wishin we could see a trailer soon.

The Chris Evans Scene from The Losers

Where, in the span of 4 minutes, he sings Journey's "Don't Stop Believing", Goes naked in an elevator and pretends to be a secret government human project.

And he's looking a lot like Captain America in those scenes don't you think?

And he really does look like Jensen from Andy Diggle's The Losers right?

God I miss the old New Avengers

While checking out the latest preview for the second issue of Avengers: Children's Crusade, I saw this particular shot...

DAMN! I just wish various Marvel events didnt break up the original roster. If there was no Civil War then maybe there should not have been any One More Day nor were Cap and Iron Man split right down the middle over their beliefs and personal philosophy.

So The Super Soldier Can Be Duplicated?!?!

Ed Brubaker, you sly fox, worming your way around Steve Rogers history. But seriously I like the whole theme for Steve Roger's new miniseries. It's about him and the man he represents. Its the man outside the costume. And it's a brand new history for the guy.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Heroic Age may be here but some dark secrets are brewing for the new top cop, Steve Rogers, secrets that harken back to the days of Operation:Rebirth, which saw the emergence of Captain America.

And just like every James Bond/ espionage movie, some half wit professor/informant type gets killed/ or burnt alive. (And they call themselves Professors and doctors huh?!)

See, that's what I was talking about!!!

Seriously, what does Rogers call his squad? I mean when Tony Stark and Nick Fury were in charge they called it S.H.I.E.L.D. while when Norman Osborn was in charge, he called it H.A.M.M.E.R. so what will Rogers call his organization??

Meeting with Peter Wisdom is never a good thing...

(Its such a shame that they pulled the plug on Captain Britain and MI:13, it was such a great book with a witty cast of characters. And seeing Wisdom on this book makes me want to read all those back issues again.)

This ranks high in my to-get-list. This has all the elements that made us love Captain America during Ed Brubaker's run. So not only are we enjoying Bucky as the new Captain America, we'll also be seeing some of Steve Rogers as well.

Good times. Keep it up Marvel.

Review: Ultimate Avengers 2 # 1

By Mark Millar and Leinil Francis Yu

With the threat of the Red Skull and his Cosmic Cube well out of the way and Nick Fury standing as the orchestrator of the whole debacle, the Black Ops SHIELD team of War Machine, Hulk, and Black Widow are back.

This time, the gang adds a new member to the team. The man known as the Punisher, Frank Castle.

But the Punisher is such a sly fox to catch. Enter Captain America.

The issue focuses on the Punisher's life before joining the Ultimate Avengers and how he finally gets apprehended, how he gets the job offer and how he gets the chance to become Captain America.

Leinil Yu is still a stand out artist. Still gritty and still sketchy, his artwork is perfect for the type of story Millar is trying to sell. Ultraviolence is also one of the books strongest suits. Unlike it's 616 counterparts, Captain America was never too vicious or too brutal. But Millar's Punisher still echoes as the 616 version. Still gory and still brutal, Frank Castle is still waging a one man war against the scum of the Earth. On this universe however, he gets to wear the Cap-Punisher uniform that he wore after the death of Captain America post-Civil War.

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is still the same A-grade A-hole we all know and love. Without really leaving a bad taste in the mouth, we now know that Fury is slowly weaseling his way back to his former position as SHIELD director unbeknown to current director, Carol Danvers. Under Millar's watchful eye, Fury has become a snake. The soldier who will do anything and everything he can to get what he wants (or if taken from a different perspective, a man who will do anything for the greater good, which so far includes him being Director again.)

In the closing pages, we get another solid Millar moment, the moment fans will recognize every single first issue of Millar's run a genuine "he said what??!?" moment.

Captain America is AN AVENGER

YEHEY! It is Bucky that will be joining the Earth's Mightiest Heroes together with Thor and Iron Man.

Plus do I see John Romita Junior's art? Solid.

I'm also impressed with I AMN AN AVENGER as a tagline.

SIEGE # 1 Scans....

So, SIEGE is finally here. I just dont know where to start this short review.

Well for starters, its written by Brian Michael Bendis with art chores coming from Young Guns member Olivier Coipel (who previously worked on Thor with JMS)

It's been much talked about and hyped about as the end of Norman Osborn's so-called "Dark Reign" and frankly, I could really care less. The problem with the Bendis led mid-events are the fact that whoever's top dog appears in over 40 to 75 comic books from Marvel.

It happened to Stark, and it happened to Osborn. There were more misses than hits and it's been dragging on for awhile.

I was never really planning on getting SIEGE because of the mere fact that it was another event. And I am so sick and tired of reading event books that do little - to no changes whatsoever.

So going back to SIEGE, there were lots of loose threads that Bendis tried so hard to write and finish off.

If theres anything that I am really hoping SIEGE delivers is that it TRULY brings back Thor, Captain America and Iron Man after several years away from each other.

Bendis also plans on "finally" unveiling the secret of the Sentry (which was really great under Paul Jenkins, not Bendis)

So going back to the story itself, one of the Warriors Three, Volstagg managed to kill hundreds if not thousands of people during a random encounter with some of the Hood's stooges.

Unknown to many, this was only a part of Loki and Osborn's schemes to seal Osborn's so-called control over the world.

Ares and the Sentry, together with their DARK AVENGERS teammates storm Asgard in retaliation for the deaths in Soldier's Field.

During the initial attack, the Sentry does a DRAGON BALL and slowly destroys Asgard from the ground up.

When Thor finally appears to help his Asgardian brothers, he gets a sound beating (which I still can't accept and understand... Okay, so maybe Sentry may just beat Thor now, but the Thor I knew was capable of putting up a decent fight against the Golden Avenger.)

This later catches the attention of Captain America Steve Rogers. For people looking for our favorite Avenger Iron Man, well, by the story starts, it seems like Stark Disassembled just finished and is well on the way to a full recovery.

If theres anything that redeems this book, I'd probably say that it was the art. Having a great inker and colorist on your side is such a great thing. Compared to his previous work on HOUSE OF M, i'd probably say this was WAAAAAAAAAYYYY better.

Who Will Save Tony Stark?

And things are setting up pretty nicely for SIEGE. Its an interesting cover as well simply because, all three of these guys appeared recently in the pages of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN. Just before Norman Osborn "killed" Tony Stark. Can't wait for this.

SIEGE: Captain America Draws the Line

Wow! Talk about just deserves. It makes me wonder, was there anybody pertinent who actually died during Dark Reign?

I mean if the villains ruled, shouldnt the heroes be dead already? Or missing in action perhaps?

The Monthlies : Captain America Reborn # 2

Because of the stunning artwork for the lauded Captain America Reborn series, I'm calling the comic book community to have Marvel strap him down as the permanent artist for Ed Brubaker's run on the series.

Why Does Everybody Hate Bucky Barnes?

I'm just curious. Why does everybody hate the current Captain America Bucky Barnes AKA Winter Soldier?

I admit at first I really didn't like the idea of having Steve Rogers killed on his way for trial post-Civil War.

With the idea that Sharon Carter, his girlfriend pulling the trigger.

And then for a couple of issues, were left with a comic book with no Captain America whatsoever, instead we witness the story of the rise of the new Captain America in the form of Bucky. We also encounter several plot points that were laid out for a "possible" return of the one true Captain America.

During his stint as the new Captain America, Bucky proved in many ways that he is still inexperienced. Not only as a hero but also as a leader, but despite all this, he strives and proves that no matter what happens, he will make Steve proud.

And that's the endearing quality I found likable in Mr. Barnes. In some small way, I try to emulate those ideals. That despite how fucked up my past is or how screwed up my future will be, I strive to be a better man everyday.

So I may be a minority here but I'm going to say this anyway, I like the New Captain America. And I'd like him to stay. I don't want Steve Rogers coming back and ruining every glorious thing that has ever been built by Bucky.

The Monthlies: Captain America Reborn # 1

Whew. I am still a bit pissed with the decision to bring back Steve Rogers from the dead. But looking at these artworks from Bryan Hitch, I just changed my mind about the whole matter....
